Think you love Green Bean Casserole? Not more than Kentuckians

Thirty million green bean casseroles! That’s the number expected to grace the tables of Americans across the country this Thanksgiving.

Del Monte – distributor and marketer of green beans asked 1,500 Americans how fond they are of the “Classic” green-bean casserole side dish. Who loves it the most?  Kentucky, where 78 percent of residents “really like or love the dish”, followed by Wisconsin (77%), Missouri (76%), Iowa (75%) and Maine (74%).

Florida ranked seventh (72%) and New York came in at Number 20 (60%). The Index didn’t rank any states below that.

While some households use the basic ingredients – green beans, condensed cream of mushroom soup, and fried onions on top, others add a little something extra to make theirs extraordinary. So, if you’ve been wondering why Aunt Gene’s green bean casserole tastes so good, Del Monte just spilled the beans…

Bacon – you guessed it – is the top secret ingredient in green bean casserole, followed by cheese, bread crumbs, croutons, or crushed crackers with almonds coming in at number 5.  Aha! No longer do you have to be green with envy of Aunt Gene’s casseroles; yours too (for good reason) can be the point of conversation at dinner.

As you embark on your holiday shopping, whether your finances are hanging by a string or you’re drowning in green (money), don’t forget to create a budget, prepare a shopping list, clip coupons or use apps for even extra savings on top.  This holiday season, all varieties of canned Del Monte green beans are on a special sale.
