Best Jobs for Retirees

According to Boston College’s Sloan Center of Aging and Work, most people who continue working after retirement don’t stay on their current jobs. They normally apply to jobs that keep them active as well as give them something to do throughout a couple hours of the day. These “bridge” jobs normally give retirees a flexible schedule while providing them a friendly working environment.

Some online resources that seniors can use to find these bridge jobs include Seniors4Hire, Retiree Workforce, Retired Brains, Senior Job Bank, and Retirement Jobs.

Seasonal Jobs

Each holiday season there is abundance of jobs available that fit. There are jobs from working as a stocking stuffer, to wrapping presents, to playing Santa or Ms. Claus at a local mall. As these jobs may not be glamorous, they pay on average $10 and up per hour. A Santa Clause 40-day contract can range from $10,000 to $50,000 depending on experience.

Non-Profit Fundraiser or Organizer

Non-profit organizations are always hiring fundraisers. Responsibilities can include applying for grants, training volunteers, writing fundraising letters, or hosting events. The best retirees for these types of jobs are those persons who have had past careers working in sales, public relations, or market research. The pay scale can run anywhere between $12 and $80 per hour.

Market/Survey Researcher

These types of positions are best for retired teachers and instructors. This involves retirees conducting random surveys via door to door, online, by phone, or through the mail. Most companies use market research when creating products and measuring the overall products’ brand awareness in a specific market. Most of the time there will be a degree required. The pay for these types of jobs can range between $17.00 and $54 per hour.

Casino Workers

If you are one of the many of retirees that have a hard time sleeping at night, maybe a night job is something that you need. These types of jobs are for people who are able to stand or walk for long periods of time. All you need is a license from a state regulatory agency. The pay can range from $8 to $25 per hour.

Contracted Consultant

This is definitely one of the highest paying jobs for retirees. Project-based consultants are brought in by companies to solve specific problems or to work on specific projects. The work schedule is flexible and average pay for these types of positions is $65 to $125 per hour.

There are a host of jobs available for retirees. Research the jobs that are available in your area. Find the ones that pay what you would like and that fit your schedule.
